Farm to Fork: Serving Up Fresh Flavors and Local Love at Longhorn Village

What’s better than a delicious meal? A meal that’s fresh, flavorful and tells a story.
At Longhorn Village, dining isn’t just about satisfying your hunger. It’s about biting into a crisp salad made with just-picked greens from a nearby farm or savoring a perfectly cooked steak sourced from cattle raised with care and tradition. Every dish is an opportunity to connect — with the land, the community and the vibrant flavors of Texas.
We’ve teamed up with local farms and food artisans to bring the best of farm-to-table dining right to your plate. Because we believe you deserve more than just good food — you deserve a culinary adventure every day. In this blog, we dig into how dining at Longhorn Village is a feast for the senses and soul. We’re not just serving meals — we’re serving moments, memories and meaningful connections, one plate at a time.
Commitment to Fresh, Local Ingredients
We’ve kicked up dining a notch by offering a blend of culinary excellence and wellness through our commitment to farm-to-table practices. By collaborating with regional farms, Longhorn Village’s culinary team ensures every meal is delicious and supports health, well-being and our local community.
We partner with Farm to Table, a local distributor connecting over 100 family-owned farms, ranches and food artisans across the Lone Star State. This gives us access to the freshest, most sustainably grown produce, ethically raised meats and specialty dairy products. Farm to Table guarantees transparency by tracking products from source to plate, enabling us to share the origins of your meals with confidence.
“These partnerships significantly impact our community. We can provide residents with fresh, local and seasonal foods prepared in diverse ways,” said Matthew Wayland. “We can nourish their bodies and enrich their minds by sharing the story behind each dish.”
Meet Our Local Partners
Two of our key suppliers highlight the excellence of our farm-to-table approach. Located in Austin, Steelbow Farm is a certified organic farm that prioritizes sustainable practices and soil health. By cultivating 5 acres intensively and organically, they produce high-quality vegetables free from chemical pesticides or herbicides. Their hands-on approach, use of cover crops and composting ensure the land remains fertile for future generations. Steelbow believes great food fosters strong relationships — a philosophy we embrace wholeheartedly at Longhorn Village.
Known for its hormone- and antibiotic-free Certified Angus Beef, 44 Farms in Cameron, Texas, combines over a century of tradition with modern advancements. This family-run ranch focuses on ethical practices and sustainable farming, producing all-natural Black Angus beef that stands out in flavor and quality. Their dedication to building relationships mirrors our values, making them an ideal partner in delivering exceptional dining experiences.
“Thanks to these boutique farms, we can prepare foods from around the world and always prioritize using the freshest local ingredients,” said Matthew Wayland.
Farm-to-Table Dining: A Delicious Path to Wellness
Choosing a senior living community that prioritizes farm-to-table dining isn’t just about enjoying delicious meals, it’s also about embracing a lifestyle that supports overall wellness. Here’s why that matters:
- Healthier options: Locally sourced produce and meats are fresher, more nutritious and free from harmful additives like chemical pesticides, herbicides and hormones. This translates to healthier meals that fuel your body and mind.
- Enhanced flavor: Seasonal ingredients provide superior taste and quality.
- Community connection: Supporting local farms strengthens ties to the community and fosters a sense of belonging.
- Environmental impact: Sustainable farming practices reduce the carbon footprint, ensuring future generations can enjoy the same rich resources we have today.
At Longhorn Village, food isn’t just sustenance but a celebration of grabbing life by the horns. Our farm-to-table approach, powered by partnerships with local organizations like Farm to Table, Steelbow Farm and 44 Farms, allows us to offer meals that are as thoughtful as they are delicious. Every ingredient tells a story, enriching your dining experience and connection to the world around you.
